French White Maran
Impressive White Plumage
The gentlest of all Marans
Superior Egg Quality
This Maran is difficult to find as it is hard to breed them with the true dark brown eggs. Also their magnificent plumage makes them one of the more difficult to care for too. With the lower than average egg production this bird is one of the least desirable of the dark brown egg layers. While this is a dual purpose breed (many French chefs consider this still to be the best eating bird), there are choices when looking for a dual purpose breed.

ISA Brown
These birds were bred to produce eggs and lots of them. These are by far, the very best for first time chicken owners. They have very few problems while being relatively maintenance free.
