Best food to egg ratio.
Ready for Handling
Pet Friendly
This is one of the best additions to your flock. It is believed they were originally cross bred with White Leghorns, so they are excellent layers, about 220 eggs per year. If you are looking for pets, this is the bird for you. If raised by you by hand you will be amazed at how friendly they can be. If they are raised with other chicks and not handled, they can be very independent and quite flighty. They are heat tolerant and generally non-setters.
They are also excellent foragers and provide a very good feed to egg ratio.
The chicks are adorable, ofter looking like penguins, but they mature into black and white mottled feathers with yellow / black legs.
They are an active bird to have in your flock and being quick and alert warn others of danger.

These birds were bred to produce eggs and lots of them. These are by far, the very best for first time chicken owners. They have very few problems while being relatively maintenance free.
